Do it yourself in England.

From today, Boots, the chemist will start selling, Do-it-yourself paternity tests, in some of their stores. The kit costs £29.99 (309 kr), with an extra £129 (1.332 kr) to get the results back from the laboratory. By rubbing a bit of your saliva on a cotton bud, it will take five days for you to get the result. 

If you are not English or have spent a lot of time in this country, you have probably never heard of the Jeremy Kyle show, a daytime show that deals with common (northerners) familie's problems. Such as alcoholism, abuse, drugs and paternity issues. Think Ricki Lake. Fathers claiming that their son/daughter is not theirs is a common thing to be brought up in the show and with the mother being uncertain herself, the drums go wild when the truth is revealed.

As far as I know, this is not available in Sweden and I can't see it being available any time soon. However, in England this was only a question of time and I'm not surprised that the option can now be found on the shelves.

Of course there is the issue that when seeing the result, it will be devastating for the family. However, looking at the Jeremy Kyle show, you do wonder if it's not best for the kid to just get adopted. May sound harsh but don't judge before you have seen that show.

Then of course, there are picture perfect families who are still in doubt. They now have an option of getting it sorted behind closed doors, good/bad? That's England for you.
